A Word on Funding

I wanted to post a little more detail on how the funding will work on this project.

I have decided to work this thing like a Kickstarter campaign if you are familiar with them. The project people submit a project and backers who like it pledge but do not give anything to it until the pledges equal 100% of the project. Right now I am in the project development stage, which means that if you like what you see you may pledge any amount you like as future support. This is not a promise that you will pay when the time comes. I understand that circumstances change, and it may be a while before the time comes to collect on pledges. By then you may be in a financially different position or you may decide that you don't like where the project has gone developmentally, or who the money is being funneled through. That is fine with me and I won't consider anyone a liar for pledging now and changing their minds later. All funds will be 100% committed to the project with no "Administrative" costs added. All work on this end is voluntary including any travel to Haiti unless we decide that it is vital to the project and gets added in later as a budget item. I anticipate a budget that includes some "optional" items that will only be added if the support is more than the "nedessary" items. Some examples would be tools, back up generator, airfare for a volunteer project manager, etc. My goal is to have pledges exceeding the project by about 10%, and if pledges go over that we will prorate down all pledges across the board. So if you pledge $10 dollars and we raise twice what we need then I will ask you to make good your pledge for only $5. Additionally, if this project goes live and is successful we hope to continue this concept in other villages in Haiti. Any overrun can then be added as a negative budget item at the start of the next project. Further, as we look years down the line, I hope to develop this "Kickstarter" type project development to encompass projects around the world that serve both the physical and spiritual needs of people.

Eventually we hope to partner with an established ministry that has a good track record of being fiscally responsible. This will allow us to make all contributions tax deductible. We may form our own 501C3 organization, but if we can partner with an established ministry it will be much simpler. Any church can be used that would like to come along side us as well as a number of independant organizations that do ministry work. I'll begin exploring some of those options as we get further along.
